Alison Gillespie Studios
Performer, Teacher, Tutor, Writer
Welcome!
I'm Alison, a 30-year resident of the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania and life-long musician, teacher, and writer.
As a performer, I focus primarily on Folk music, playing with several groups and bands around the area. Currently, I perform with Blackwater, Banna Lach, Big Valley Bluegrass, in a duo with harpist Joanna Mell, with my husband Tom Gillespie and sometimes with my daughters who bring dueling fiddles, flute, harp and vocals to the mix.
As a teacher, I offer individual violin and fiddle lessons at my home studio in Coopersburg, PA, and through Moravian College, Bethlehem, and the Moravian College Music Institute where I am on the faculty of the Music Department and direct the Moravian College Celtic Ensemble. I am a workshop instructor and a recording musician. I have more than 30 years' experience teaching young children, and nine years experience teaching in a primary school. Many of my students have won awards and been placed in ensembles.
As an arts facilitator, I have served for many years with the Celtic Cultural Alliance and the Bethlehem Fine Arts Council. I have organized and run music camps, festivals, fundraisers and concerts, and I have a proven success in grant writing.
As a writer, I hold a degree in journalism, and I have written for and served as editor for newspapers, blogs, magazines and newsletters as a full-time staff writer, freelance writer, and ghostwriter.
As a mother of three daughters, I have spent years writing, editing, teaching, and homework-assisting as well!
